I had been staying in Penang for 14 weeks before retirement.
At that time, I was involving in an in-service course at SEAMEO RECSAM in Penang.
Located at Jalan Gelugor (Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah), SEAMEO RECSAM happened to be opposite the Shell Petrol Station.
During the course period, I always went around Penang on weekends. I was unable to capture the uniqueness of Penang because I didn't have a digital camera.
As my son was studying at USM, I had to travel between Penang and Malacca. After graduating from USM, he furthered his study at University of the West of England in Bristol United Kingdom.
We stayed in Malaysia Hotel when we were attending our son's convocation at USM. Located along Penang Road, the location and the room rate of Malaysia Hotel are not problems but the parking space is too limited.
While walking along Penang Road, we were surprised to see this traditional cinema.
Traditional cinema has gradually phase out, Odeon seems to be an interesting exemption. Not certain this Odeon still operating in Penang nowadays.

Our last visit to Penang was in 2009.
We were attending a wedding dinner during that visit and stayed in a lousy hotel in George Town. This hotel is under the management of a transnational corporation but the condition of the room we stayed was truly disappointing.
