South Korean Wooden Coaster

I had written a few posts on South Korean stainless steel products (Spoon, Rice Bowl and Chopsticks). I am going to write about South Korean wooden products in this post.

As you can see from the above photo, the South Korean stuff is a wooden coaster. It was strung with wooden beads.

This is another wooden coaster which my son bought in Seoul. Actually this wooden coaster was made in Vietnam.

South Korean Stainless Steel Spoon

I had published an article on South Korean stainless steel bowl and chopsticks. In this post, I will write about South Korean stainless steel spoon.

There are four stainless steel spoons in a set. I forgot to enquire my son regarding the price.

My wife uses the stainless steel spoon to scoop salt, sugar, chilli and soy sauce. I use the stainless steel spoon to stir my drink.

South Korean Cereal Snacks

Sesame

South Korean not only celebrates Lunar New Year, many South Korean foods are also similar to Chinese foods. My previous articles were about South Korean ma-ci and mi-fang. Now, I would like to introduce South Korean cereal snacks.

Barley

The process of making cereal snacks is almost same as making mi-fang. Among mi-fang, ma-ci and cereal snacks, I prefer crispy mi-fang to ma-ci and cereal snacks. The cereal snacks are too sweet and not crispy.

South Korean Mi-Fang (Rice Cookie)

In the 60s, Chinese in Malaysia would give mi-fangs to friends and relatives when their daughter married. Since the 70s, cake shops emerged in large numbers. Mi-fang's role was gradually being replaced by cake. The purpose of giving mi-fangs or cakes was hoping that the married couple would have a happy marriage.

My son brought back a box of South Korean mi-fang (Rice cookie) when he returned from Seoul. I was surprised to know that mi-fang is one of South Korean traditional food.

The ingredients of mi-fang are rice bubbles, butter and malt sugar. The process of making mi-fang is not difficult. First, boil butter and malt sugar in a pot and stir for about 5 minutes. Pour the mixture into a tray coated with butter. Add in appropriate amount of rice bubbles and stir until evenly.

South Korean mi-fang is not too sweet and sticky. It's crispy and fragrant. The reason why South Korean mi-fang is not sticky, perhaps honey was used instead of malt sugar. Spices had been added to make mi-fang fragrant.
