Korean Traditional Winter Heating System

South Korea is a country with four seasons. The temperature in winter is below zero and it's extremely cold. Nowadays, there is diversity of heaters from enormous to mini size. You don't have to worry you will be frozen during chilly winter.

How did Koreans get warm at home in winter during ancient times?

They didn't burn firewood in the living room as the westerners. They dug a hole beneath the wooden floor and burnt firewood to keep the building warm.

If you had visited Korean hanoks, perhaps aware of Korean traditional houses are low. The reason of building low hanoks was to preserve heat without burning too much of firewood.
